The Biomimicry Institute’s 2011 Student Design Challenge is launching!  The Challenge website is available here, with more details being added daily. This year’s Challenge is to use biomimicry to design a solution that increases energy efficiency and ultimately reduces greenhouse gases, ideally in the students’ local area. Thanks to funding from the Merck Family Foundation, this year’s Challenge is open to students from any university in the world, and the winning submission will receive a $5000.00 prize! Interdisciplinary teams are strongly encouraged, and teams must register by October 1 to participate. Registered teams will have access to supporting resources including video introductions to biomimicry and Life’s Principles by TBI Founder and President Janine Benyus and TBI staff. Challenge submissions will be due December 21, 2011, with winners to be announced in February. Visit the Biomimicry Student Design Challenge website to pre-register your interest, and to stay tuned and learn more! We’re really looking forward to submissions from South Africa. Let us know if you need any support from any of the biomimicrySA team. We’re also launching a student biomimicry network soon. We’ll keep you informed as it develops.
