DIALOGUE WORKSHOP - WRC FUNDED GOLDER & ASSOC 5 year BIOMIMICRY PROJECT

  • ISIANGO CONVENTION CENTRE, MIDRAND
  • This project is funded by the Water Research Commission and lead by Golder Associates with biomimicrySA providing the biomimicry expertise on the team. The project is based on using biomimicry-based innovation ideas to take forward in the context of the challenges and opportunities for Constructed Wetlands and rehabilitation of natural wetlands. This study will look to exploit knowledge on how nature cleans water, to better engineer constructed wetlands to meet the challenges of current and emerging pollutants and pathogens. The core project team consists of engineers and scientists with experience in various sectors. Experts will be consulted and invited to participate in workshops and seminars in order to incorporate their knowledge and deliver a novel approach to constructed wetland (CW) designs for water treatment. The project began in April 2011 and will continue for 5 years

OKAVANGO DELTA BIOMIMICRY EXPEDITION ODDBALLS CAMP

  • A unique biomimicry expedition opportunity in Botswana's magnificent Okavango Delta. Two of our biomimicry heroes - Dr John Todd & Nancy Jack Todd will be visiting South Africa in October this year to contribute to a number of biomimicrySA's water related projects. To end off their visit we're hosting an expedition in one of the world's greatest wetlands with one of the world's greatest wetland biomimics! biomimicrySA in collaboration with Wildlight Safaris is offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of a biomimicry expedition in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. This expedition includes special guests Dr John Todd (one of the world’s greatest wetland biomimicry experts, ecological engineer & multiple award winner) and Nancy Jack Todd (author of A Safe and Sustainable World: The Promise of Ecological Design).

THE EXPEDITION INCLUDES:

• An exploration of biomimicry in a truly magnificent & unique wilderness

• An experience of the wonders of an African safari through the lens of biomimicry

• Biomimicry guided tours on foot and in mokoro (dug out canoe)

• Special input from Dr John Todd and Nancy Jack Todd – including discussions & fireside talks

• Biomimicry Professional trainer, Claire Janisch & specialist biomimicry naturalist, Rob Janisch will lead the expedition and share the genius of nature through the biomimicry lens
